Universidad del Sagrado Corazón [USC], is the oldest private educational institution in Puerto Rico. It was established in 1880 by the religious order of the Society of the Sacred Heart as an all-girls school. It is now a coeducational, comprehensive, selective, liberal arts institution. The University, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico, serves a predominantly low income student body with many first generation college students.
The University promotes a participatory, active, personalized education that is relevant to current social realities and to expected transformations. It emphasizes the humanistic, scientific, technological, and professional formation of its students and helps them develop a strong language competency in Spanish and in English as a Second Language, the capacity for team work and the ability to recognize, distinguish, and practice ethical values. The curriculum assures the development of critical and creative thinking skills, a multicultural perspective and the integration of theory and practice through internships and Service Learning.
Outside support is critical to supplement the very low tuition that the University charges; less than most public institutions on the mainland. Your support is needed to provide scholarships for our students as well as support for the following critical initiatives:
Increasing our Scholarship Fund for talented, low income students
Updating technology and other educational resources on campus
Expanding the project to educate bilingual professionals
Transforming the Library into a 21st Century Learning Commons
Updating physical facilities on our 105 years old campus
All of these projects are important to Sagrado’s future and to the education of our students. Your support will allow us to remain competitive and to continue to provide an affordable education to our students.
