ph-laboratories

Anatomy Laboratory

It is used in the courses of Human Biology, Morphology of Algae, Fungi and Bryophytes, Morphology of Vascular Plants, Plant Physiology, General Zoology, Ecology, Genetics, Human Anatomy and Human Physiology.

It has tables with enough space for 25 students. It has ovens, herbarium cabinets, compound microscopes and dissection microscopes.

Self-Tutorial and Skills Laboratory of the Nursing Program

The Nursing Program's Self-Tutorial and Skills Laboratory has the fundamental purpose of allowing students in the Nursing Program to practice and develop their skills in nursing care. The unit has highly sophisticated equipment similar to the equipment that students use in hospitals and health agencies. The LAT allows students to gain confidence in their skills by practicing with simulators. It is considered one of the best in the Caribbean.

Cell Biology Laboratory

It has equipment for tissue culture, a phase microscope and equipment for microscopic photography and video. It is used in Molecular Cell Biology and Developmental Biology courses.

Social Sciences Laboratory

The classrooms of the Social Sciences Laboratory make important experiences possible. Laboratory practice provides students with the necessary tools to design, conduct and analyze research, as well as training in descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, among others. Students can conduct interviews and these can be recorded to be analyzed with the students themselves. Feedback allows students to gain the necessary experience in interview-conducting techniques. The arrangement of the physical space, with work tables, fosters the necessary climate and provides the setting for the development of activities related to group dynamics.

Physics Laboratory

It has work benches with capacity for 25 students and adequate equipment for the laboratory exercises that are usually done in physics, including laser beams. It also has three computers for simulations and statistical work. It is used in General Physics courses.

Language Laboratory

The University has a large and modern Language Laboratory where students can use computerized instructional modules with audio to facilitate the learning of basic linguistic structures and develop the corresponding ability to understand and express languages. The appropriate use of this resource allows for individualized language teaching and special attention to be paid to aspects that need further development.

Microbiology Laboratory

It has tables with enough space for 25 students. It has microscopes with immersion lenses, incubators, a refrigerator, centrifuges, a spectrophotometer, an ELISA and a tissue processor. It is used in the courses of Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology, Microbial Physiology and Diagnostic Microbiology.

General Chemistry Laboratory

It comprises two connecting rooms with tables to accommodate students so they can work in pairs. There are extractors, furnaces, muffles and a room with analytical balances and semi-analytical balances on vibration-proof tables. It is used in the courses of General Chemistry, Principles of General Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry.

Instrumental Chemistry Laboratory

Contains basic instruments used in instrumental chemistry courses, such as visible light, ultraviolet and atomic absorption spectrophotometers. It is used in instrumental chemistry, physical chemistry and environmental chemistry classes.

Organic Chemistry Laboratory

It comprises two connecting rooms with two tables each to accommodate 8 students per table. There are extractors, oven, scales and ice machine. It is used in the Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry courses.

Human Performance Laboratory

The Human Performance Laboratory, located in the Student Center, has scientific equipment used to measure and evaluate the components of physical fitness. The Laboratory performs tests to measure muscular strength and endurance (“sit-ups”, “push-ups”, dynamometer), body composition (plicometry), flexibility (“sit and reach” test), spirometry and cardiovascular endurance (“stress test”). The Laboratory also has equipment used in strength training and kinesiology classes (human skeleton, bones, diagram of the muscles of the body).
human body). The concentration courses of the Exercise Science and Health Promotion Program are taught there, using existing resources to put into practice the theoretical knowledge presented in the courses.
