Description

The Master of Arts in Communication with a specialization in Storytelling is a specialty for professionals with a bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, interested in the field of communication and marketing. This master's degree prepares the student to undertake digital narrative projects in a hyperconnected environment with user interactivity in various media and multiple platforms.

The Master's Degree in Storytelling is the only master's degree that thoroughly prepares students to develop the art of storytelling and the creation of strategic content within the digital ecosystem.

Curriculum

The Master's in Communication Arts with a specialty in Storytelling curriculum develops skills to conceive, create and manage digital content projects from writing for digital media, research to disseminate and promote interactivity. In addition, it prepares a communicator with knowledge of the paradigms of communication in a convergent digital environment.

This master's degree does not require a thesis to complete the degree, the student completes a project. It is a professional master's degree with a methodological component that encourages practice.

Integration of professional certifications into the graduate program

The master's degree will prepare you to develop digital storytelling projects for users in multiple media and platforms, which entails managing several projects simultaneously and at different levels. Therefore, in addition to your master's classes, you will take the Google Professional Certification in Project Management through the Coursera platform. The certification consists of six asynchronous and practical courses through which you will understand the practices and skills to be successful in a project management position, and you will practice strategic communication and problem solving in professional work situations.

This master's degree belongs to the Ferré Rangel School of Communication, the most prestigious in its field in Puerto Rico.

Duration and modality

The Master of Arts in Communication with a specialty in Storytelling consists of 24 credits to be completed in 4 quarters. All courses are offered remotely with synchronous interactions (virtual hybrid mode), which means that part of the experience is asynchronous through content and assignments through the Canvas educational platform, and the other part is synchronous through virtual meetings via ZOOM. The courses meet by videoconference at night (starting at 6:00 pm Puerto Rico time). Others are by arrangement and meet on previously agreed days also by videoconference.

EXPLANATORY NOTES

  1. The subjects must be passed in the order in which they appear in the study plan, unless another sequence is approved by the academic unit.
  2. Students who interrupt their studies for an academic session and are readmitted will be governed by the curriculum in effect on the date of readmission. If the degree has not been obtained, the validity of the courses will be as established in the current academic catalogue.
  3. The student will repeat all courses in which he or she obtains a grade of “C” or lower.
  4. In programs that require projects, the student will have up to one consecutive academic year to complete the project. The student will receive a final grade of Pass (P) or No Pass (NP), as appropriate. Failure to complete the project will result in failure to complete the requirements leading to the degree.
