History

Rooted in Puerto Rico's communication future

The Ferré Rangel School of Communication (ECFR by its Spanish acronym) was founded in 1981 with the creation of the Department of Communication at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, through the vision and leadership of its first director, Dr. Ethel Ríos de Betancourt. At its inception, the Department offered three undergraduate programs-Advertising, Journalism, and Radio and Television-that laid the foundation for the professional education of communicators in Puerto Rico. In 1985, the School marked a major milestone with the launch of Puerto Rico's first master's degree dedicated to the professionalization of Public Relations, expanding graduate education in the field.
