La doctora Soto Nieves posee un bachillerato en Biotecnología Industrial de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayagüez, una maestría en genética molecular y un doctorado en Ciencias Biomédicas con especialidad en Genética, Biología Celular Molecular e Inmunología de Albert Einstein College of Medicine en New York. Además, ha colaborado en proyectos de investigación en Puerto Rico y Estados Unidos.
